thesis.pdf (May 2007) :: This is my PhD thesis. JMorven: A Framework for Parallel Non-Constructive Qualitative Reasoning and Fuzzy Interval Simulation.
qr05_paper.pdf (May 2005) :: This was an updated paper on parallelising a fuzzy qualitative reasoning engine, submitted to the QR Workshop 2005.
thesisproposal.pdf (May 2005) :: This is my Thesis Proposal detailing the work I had undergone during the first two years of my PhD and what I aimed to accomplish in the final year.
rasc_paper.pdf (Nov 2004) :: This is my first publication. It details work I have undergone in building a qualitative reasoning engine with parallel optimisations to allow it to run on a multi-processor machine or in a distributed computing environment.
1stYrReport.pdf (July 2004) :: This is a report for assessment on completion of my first year on my PhD. It explains the work I have undertook and also outlines the planned work for the final two years of my PhD.
ipv6.pdf (May 2003) :: This is a report on the findings of a short-term project setting up a department to be ipv6 compatible. The new protocol offers many advantages over its predecessor. This document also describes how to set up ipv6 on Mac OS, Linux, Solaris and Windows aswell as setting up some commercial software to use the protocol.
chargefinder.pdf (May 2002) :: This is a report handed in as part of my 5th year continuous assessment. The document details how to find the charge within an electric field using the finite difference method and gives the source code for a program to do this written in MATLAB.
drillcuttings.pdf (May 2002) :: This is the report for a group project undertaken as part of my 5th year course. The document investigates many possible solutions to clearing drill cuttings from the seabed - a very large scale problem in the North Sea and many other locations. A possible design is then detailed in-depth with costings and feasibility reports.
correctbyconstruction.pdf (Dec 2001) :: This is a scientific paper handed in as part of my 5th year continuous assessment. The document describes research I completed to investigate possible techniques to design communications protocols which are provably correct (Incomplete, a reference missing - cant find my final copy)
optimisation.pdf (Dec 2001) :: This is a report handed in as part of my 5th year continuous assessment. The document looks at methods of optimisation and a new algorithm based on the simplex algorithm is devised. The algorithm is compared to an exhaustive search for a 2-variable problem. Source code is included to demonstrate the new algorithm working using MATLAB. A users guide is also included to understand how to use the software.
watermarking.pdf (Oct 2001) :: This is a scientific paper handed in as part of my 5th year continuous assessment. The document looks at problems in digital communications with respect to unauthorised copying and alleged ownership. A technique of watermarking is discussed and several mathematical algorithms are discussed for watermarking and their effectiveness against attacks.
dummynet.pdf (Sep 2001) :: This is a report as part of my research undertaken for ERG. The document details how to use Unix and install necessary software for continuing research in this area. The TCP and HTTP protocols are discussed briefly and tests were undertaken to illustrate differences in the different versions of the protocols. The research was part of a project concerned with slow-lossy satellite communications links. To achieve this in a lab, a program called dummynet was used.
mp3design.pdf (Nov 2000) :: This is a report handed in as part of my 3rd year continuous assessment. The document looks at the mp3 format in detail and how compression is achieved. A RISC design is then detailed for a possible mp3 player.
